Cherry Blossom Festival
With Spring comes Flower Festivals
Celebrate Spring in DC at the National Cherry Blossom Festival.
The National Cherry Blossom Festival is a wonderful celebration in DC.
The festival commemorates a gift of 3,000 cherry trees from Mayor Ozaki of Tokyo to the city of Washington, DC in 1912. What a beautiful gesture from the people of Japan to the United States! The festival honors the lasting friendship between the US and Japan.
In 2020, the Cherry Blossom Festival kicks off March 20 with the Pink Tie Party. Attend this annual fundraiser featuring cocktails, great cuisine, live music, and dancing. This celebration marks the end of winter and the beginning of the blossom season in DC.
Have you ever attended the Cherry Festival?

The Festival begins
The date of the festival is planned as close as possible to the blooming of the cherry blossom trees.
As weather conditions play a big part in the blooming season the prediction of the blooming period isn’t made until early March each year.
Stay in the loop. Check before and during the festival for updates on the peak blooming period.
The peak blooming period is when 70 percent of the blossoms are open. The blooming period starts several days before the Peak date.
To see the cherry blossoms’ visit the National Park locations in West Potomac Park around the Tidal Basin in East Potomac Park (Hains Point), and on the Washington Monument grounds.

Never been to DC?
There are many sites to see and museums to visit. The World War II Memorial, the Lincoln Memorial and the Arlington National Cemetery were my favorites.
Our trip to DC was wonderful. We ventured out on our own and enjoyed many museums and memorials. There’s so much to see it’s hard to experience DC in one trip.
There are many companies that give guided tours of the Monuments and Memorials in DC. You’ll get many results when searching google for DC Monument Tours. Here are a few of the Guided Tours you’ll find in DC, CitySightsDC, Trolley Tours DC and Viator Tours DC. Go ahead – check it out.
There are evening tours, bike and bus tours, and private tours. The Lincoln Memorial is breath-taking in the evening. A Monument Moonlight Tour may be just the ticket you’re looking for.
